Notes:
Attempting a coffee stout with a basic stout and coffee added at the racking stage. There was not enough dark malt to make it a stout, so renamed to a brown ale. Boil size 4 L. Hop bag left in primary fermentation. OG lower than expected and the colour somewhat lighter than expected. Hope it comes out okay! Coffee grounds absorbed most of the water but there is a strong coffee flavor from the resulting addition of the coffee at racking. Stayed relatively high gravity even after 2 weeks secondary. Bottled with a low loading of priming sugar. Very strongly coffee flavoured at bottling. 2 Weeks after bottling this brew is a little disappointing - the aroma is almost that of peas and the flavour is not much better. I hope this brew improves with some time in the bottle.
Not to everybody's liking, but some maturation helped to make this beer drinkable. I think the 2-day cold brew of the coffee may have caused some vegetable-like flavours in this brew. Perhaps a different method if we try again?
